Abstract:A Monte Carlo simulation method is applied to the calculations of the electron scavenging probability in irradiated hydrocarbon liquids. The simulation runs are carried out for different types of ionization clusters that form a high-energy electron track. The total scavenging probability is calculated by averaging the individual scavenging rates over the distribution of all types of structures that form the track. The scavenging probability for the track is lower by 20–30% than the probability calculated on the basis of the independent pair theory. The decrease is caused by the scavenger depletion in the multi-pair ionization clusters.
