The photochemical synthesis of (cyclooctatetraene) W(CO)4

Summary Photolysis of W(CO)_o in the presence of cyclooctatetraene in hexane obtains sequential displacement of CO resulting in the formation of dihapto, tetrahapto and hexahapto complexes of cyclooctatetrae ne with tungsten. A simple preparation of ⁴-cyclooctatetraenetetracarbonyltungsten is described.
