Dynamics of Hydrogen Bonds in Hydrogen Compounds of Period II Elements

The correlation energy diagrams of hydrogen compounds of Period II elements show that thehydrogen bond energy varies nonmonotonically along the period, passing through a minimum for CH₄, whichis consistent with the fact that this compound exhibits the properties of neither carbon hydride nor hydrogencarbide, is a parent compound for the organic chemistry. The degree of polymerization of liquid hydrogen fluoride was estimated from the correlation diagrams. The estimated degree of polymerization of thawedice is consistent with the known clathrate model of its structure.
