| Abstract: | A series of 9-aryl-3,6-dimethyl-1,8-dioxo-2,7,10-trioxanthenes were synthesized by the reaction of aromatic aldehydes with 4-hydroxyl-6-methyl-2-pyranone in acetic anhydride. The structure of the product was determined by IR, 1H NMR, elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis. A possible mechanism for this reaction is postulated. |
