| Abstract: | Optimal reaction conditions for the direct spectrophotometric determination of niobium in steels are described. Conditions for the formation of the niobium—sulphochlorophenol S complex are defined, and the effects of many alloying elements are discussed. Niobium can thus be determined in all types of steels in the range of 0.002–3%Nb. |
