Shape and electronic structure of organoboron nanoparticles prepared by the high-temperature pyrolysis of carborane C2B10H12

Abstract:Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy are used to determine the shape and electronic structure of organoboron nanoparticles formed during high-temperature pyrolysis of C2B10H12 carborane vapor. Spherical, lenticular, and shapeless nanoparticles are found. Spherical and lenticular particles exhibit metallic conduction, whereas shapeless particles show semiconductor properties.
