Abstract: | Summary The activities of D. T. Day (1859–1915, J. E. Gilpin (1866–1924) and C. Engler (1842–1925) connected with the adsorptive filtration of petroleum oil samples are discussed. As indicated, their methodology can be considered as precursor of the chromatographic technique; however, it should not be envisaged as the beginnings of chromatography. |
