| Abstract: | The level of natural selection is one of the most important problems that faces evolutionary biologist and different opinions on this question lead to different explanations for the same biological phenomenon. The paper introduces and discusses three of the most popular schools in modern behavioral ecology: individual, group and kin selection theories. It is believed that the level at which the natural selection operate could be changed according to the species, the circumstance and period. However, only gene, characterized by its potential stability and longevity, could be considered as the final object of natural selection, because the evolution is an event leaping over the geologic age. |
