| Abstract: | It is suggested that the two-dimensional electron fluid in the Si100] inversion layers may spontaneously distort to form a spin density wave (SDW) or valley density wave (VDW) at densities ? 8 × 1011 cm-2. The relative stability of the SDW to VDW states is determined by the sign of the total intervalley interactions. |
