Transverse coupling and dynamics of patterns in a photorefractive oscillator

Abstract:The effect of transverse coupling in a photorefractive oscillator is studied. From the study the condition for stable optical patterns of multimode oscillation is given analytically and verified by numerical simulation. Under the stable condition, the period-doubling route to spatiotemporal chaos is observed.
