Response of a dynamic system to flow-induced load

Abstract:An approximate analytical method is used to study in-line vibrations of a linear system induced by oscillatory flow. The hydrodynamic drag force is accounted for by an equivalent viscous dashpot. The obtained equivalent linear system is used to determine the amplitude and the phase of the oscillatory component, and the offset component of the steady-slate periodic response of the linear system. Several parametric studies are presented and discussed in detail. Particular attention is given to the magnitude of the effective viscous damping.
