Abstract:
Some consequences of a recently derived relationship between the spectral properties and the spatial coherence properties of a stationary optical field are studied for the case when the field is one-dimensional. It is found that the spectrum may be determined from the knowledge of the spatial coherence of the field at all pairs of points that lie within an interval whose length is at least as great as the coherence length of the light.
