Low frequency Raman scattering in chalcogenide glasses

Low frequency Raman spectra of chalcogenide glasses are analyzed in terms of matrix element effects and modes of a layered structure. The spectra of GeSe₂ at low temperature shows no peaks which can be assigned to layer modes. The reduced spectra indicates that the density of states exhibits nearly ω² dependence for ω < 60 cm^?1, and the coupling constant approaches ω² dependence at frequencies less than 20 cm^?1.
