Abstract:	A novel heteroaromatic substance, aaptamine possessing an α-adrenoceptor blocking activity has been isolated from the tropical sea sponge $Aaptos$ $aaptos$ and its structure has been determined to be $1$ on the basis of spectral data and chemical degradation.
