Property Comparison of Cellulose Acetate Prepared Homogenously in Different Ionic Liquids

Abstract:Cellulose acetates were synthesized homogeneously in four types of ionic liquids without any catalyst using cotton linter as the raw material and acetic anhydride as the esterification agent. FTIR, XRD and DSC were used to characterize the obtained products. It was shown that the homogeneously prepared cellulose acetates became completely amorphous. Degree of substitution of cellulose acetate synthesized in C4C1Im]OAc] was found the highest; whereas Tg of this ester was the lowest. It was also found that the film made of cellulose acetate prepared in C4C1Im]OAc] had lower toughness.
