Abstract: | Summary A method for preparative isolation of serum lipoproteins by a combination of differential and density gradient ultracentrifugation is presented. Total plasma lipoproteins are first isolated in a concentrated form by ultracentrifugation in a fixed angle rotor at a plasma background density of 1.21 kg/l. Subsequently, the various lipoprotein classes are separated by density gradient ultracentrifugation in a swinging bucket rotor. The procedure requires only two ultracentrifugation steps and combines advantages of both ultracentrifugation techniques.
