| Abstract: | By studying the specific heat of samples of different quality it is shown that the character of the specific-heat anomaly depends sensitively on the quality of the crystals. Our result on Er monopnictides indicated that the transition is of first order. It seems unlikely that successive structural (quadrupole) and magnetic transitions occur in these compounds. |
