Electon spectroscopy using exeted atoms and photons of Penning ionization of the rare gases

A study has been made of the Penning ionization electron spectra resulting from collisions between rare gas atoms and helium metastable atoms. The results are compared and contrasted with photoelectron spectra at 584 Å. Additional bands appear in the electron spectra and are explained on the basis of fast neutral-neutral collisions involving curve crossing mechanisms. Electron spectra from mixed rare gas systems at higher pressures are examined.
