Abstract: | A new phenomenon, i.e., quantum damping of Langmuir waves in electron degenerate plasma was detected, studied, and explained. It was shown that quantum damping occurs in the short-wavelength spectral region, i.e., has a wavenumber threshold. Numerical solutions to the quantum dispersion relation were found for complex frequencies of Langmuir waves. Analytical expressions were derived for frequencies and wave damping decrements in various wavenumber ranges. |
