Abstract: | The physical significance of the so-called initial modulus, determined in measuring the rheological properties of thermoplastic melts from the initial slope of the time dependence of the stresses at given constant shear rate, is considered. It is shown that this quantity is related with the ratio of the shear and normal stresses.Topchiev Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis, Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Moscow.
