Raman scattering from electronic excitations of samarium in semiconducting and metallic Sm_1?xY_xS

Abstract:	The Raman spectra of Sm_1?xY_xS for $x?0.4$ have been measured. Electronic scattering between the J = 0 ground state and the J = 1 and 2 excited states of Sm²⁺ is observed. The singlet-triplet transition is observed on both sides of the black to gold phase transition in Sm_1?xY_xS.
