Abstract: | We have measured the room-temperature static lattice dielectric constant of PbTe using a cavity-perturbation technique. The result, ?s = 800 ± 220, implies a transverse optic phonon frequency cm-1 in agreement with values extrapolated from low-temperature magnetoplasma measurements but in disagreement with the commonly-quoted neutron-diffraction result of Cochran et al., ωTO = 31.7 ± 1.3 cm-1. |
