Abstract: | Matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) with nonacidic matrices is shown to generate intact gas‐phase ions of double‐stranded DNA. Control experiments show that specific DNA duplexes are detected by this method, while nonspecific adducts form only when high monomer concentrations are present in the MALDI sample. The relative intensity of the duplex‐ion signal is found to reflect the solution‐phase stability of the double‐stranded DNA. |
