Synthesis and Crystal Structure of [Et_4N]_2[Zn_2(OPh)_2Cl_4]

The reaction of zinc chloride with sodium phenoxide followed by the addition of tetraethylammonium chloride monohydrate gave a dimer zinc complex, Et4N]2Zn2(OPh)2Cl4]. The crystal structure of it has been determined. It crystallizes in monoclinic space group C2/m with a = 14.1366(2),b=13.6985(5), c=9.3308(3)?,β=107.851(2)o, V=1719.92(9) 3 , C28H50O2N2Zn2Cl4, Mr=721.24, Z=2, Dx=1.393g/cm3 , (MoK?=1.732mm—1, F(000)=756, R=0.0552,wR=0.1534, S=1.027. The complex consists of an anion of Zn2(OPh)2Cl4]2— and two cations of Et4N+. The anion Zn2(OPh)2Cl4]2 contains a central Zn2O2 rhombic plane. The two zinc atoms are doubly bridged by two oxygen atoms of phenolate ligands and each zinc atom coordinates to two chlorine ligands to form a tetrahedral coordination.
