| Abstract: | The fluoroquinolones, 7-benzoxazol-2-yl-1-ethyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid and 7-benzothiazol-2-yl-1-ethyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid, were synthesized. The compounds were obtained by use of the Gould-Jacobs route to the quinoline ring system. The required anilines, 3-benzoxazol-2-yl-4-fluorophenylamine and 3-benzothiazol-2-yl-4-fluorophenylamine were obtained by the cyclodehydration reaction of 5-amino-2-fluorobenzoic acid with 2-aminophenol or 2-aminothiophenol respectively using polyphosphoric acid. |
