Abstract: | The strain pattern about a spherical glass bead imbedded in a stretched rubber has been calculated and used to predict the birefringence and light scattering. This is compared with experimental measurements of the retardation pattern observed using a polarization microscope and deduced from the low-angle laser Hv light scattering pattern. The agreement with theory is favorable. The light scattering is suggestive of similar origins of light scattering from crystallizing rubbers and from inhomogeneously crosslinked rubbers. |
