Epithermal positronium emission from liquid and solid gallium

Abstract:A vertically configured slow positron beam has been used to study the surface of liquid and solid gallium. A two-state model has been used to fit the Doppler-broadening lineshape parameter as a function of incident positron energy in the range 0–2.5 keV. The experimental results are temperature and phase independent and can be best explained by the emission of positronium from elastic scattering of ephithermal positrons through the surface.
