Abstract: | Block copolymers of styrene and α-methylstyrene were obtained by a cationic mechanism involving a single-step addition in the m-chloroperbenzoic acid/liquid sulfur dioxide system. This result was possible because of the difference in the reactivity of these monomers in the temperatures of ?40°C, ?60°C, and ?78°C. Under these temperature conditions α-methylstyrene is more reactive than styrene. The composition of the block copolymers was determined by NMR and TGA analysis in fractionated samples. |
