Convexity and tadpoles

We show that it is possible to produce a convex effective potential using the tadpole method of calculation, both at zero temperature and in real time finite-temperature quantum field theory. We point out, however, that this does not evade the failure of the loop expansion in a theory with a non-convex classical potential at a temperature where the minima of the effective potential have moved in to the classical points of inflection.
