Structure of X-ray photoelectron and X-ray emission spectra of ThO2 and ThF4 due to electrons of molecular orbitals

Abstract:The fine structure of the X-ray photoelectron and O4,5(Th) X-ray emission spectra of the low-energy (0 …) ∼50eV) electrons of thorium in ThO2 and ThF4 is studied. It is established that both outer (0 … ∼15 eV) and inner (15… ∼50 eV) valence molecular orbitals, which are mostly due to the Th6p and O(F)2s shells of the neighboring thorium atoms and ligands, are formed in these compounds.
