Facilities in China for education and R&D in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering at universities and institutes are developing very rapidly, with some of these institutions, especially in Beijing and Shanghai, already having achieved an international level. They focus not only on basic research but also on hi‐tech R&D that serves the country's top priority: economic development.
