Abstract: | One-dimensional solitary wave solutions of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation are unstable to long-wavelength transverse disturbances. Here, the nonlinear development of the instability is investigated. The results depend on the size of the system as well as on the allowed perturbation wavelengths. The analytical predictions are compared with numerical simulations. |
