Covering with blocks in the non-symmetric case

Considering an infinite string of i.i.d. random letters drawn from a finite alphabet we define the cover timeW _n as the number of random letters needed until each pattern of lenghtn appears at least once as a substring. Sharp weak and a.s. limit results onW _n are known in the symmetric case, i.e., when the random letters are uniformly distributed over the alphabet. In this paper we determine the limit distribution ofW _n in the nonsymmetric case asn. Generalizations in terms of point processes are also proved.Dedicated to Endre Csáki on his 60th birthday.     

A long-time tail for random walk in random scenery

Consider a simple random walk on ^d whose sites are colored black or white independently with probabilityq, resp. 1–q. Walk and coloring are independent. Letn _k be the number of steps by the walk between itskth and (k+1) th visits to a black site (i.e., the length of itskth white run), and let _k =E(n _k )–q ^–1. Our main result is a proof that (*) lim _k k ^d/2 _k = (1 –q)q ^{d/2 – 2}(d/2) ^d/2. Since it is known thatq ^{– 1} _k =E(n ₁ n _{k + 1} B) –E(n ₁ B)E(n _{k + 1} B), withB the event that the origin is black, (*) exhibits a long-time tail in the run length autocorrelation function. Numerical calculations of _k (1k100) ind=1, 2, and 3 show that there is an oscillatory behavior of _k for smallk. This damps exponentially fast, following which the power law sets in fairly rapidly. We prove that if the coloring is not independent, but is convex in the sense of FKG, then the decay of _k cannot be faster than (*).

好稿外流外稿选优

“好稿外流”造成学报稿原匮乏的情况，在市属高校不同程度地存在着；与此同时，“外稿”却与日俱增，补充了学报的文稿，也带来了用稿的矛盾。解决这个矛盾的正确办法是既不反对好稿外流，又要做了外稿选优的工作，以保证学报的稿源和质量     

从“适应理论”分析男子中长跑有氧与无氧训练

采用文献资料、对比等方法，对我国男子中长跑现状进行调查分析．从适应理论视角分析，现代中长跑有氧训练应与速度力量、技术训练相结合，提高速度素质．应在大强度训练与频繁赛事之间增大有氧训练比例，以良好竞技状态完成无氧训练，从刺激、恢复两个方面提高训练质量．     

高等教育公平与民办高教非营利性的政策维护

我国高等教育，无论是在过去的计划经济体制下，还是在今天的社会主义市场经济条件下，抑或是以后进入高等教育普及的发展阶段，教育的非营利性都是绝对不能够摒弃的。从追求高等教育公平的角度出发，分析民办高等教育的营利性问题，并给出相应的维护手段。方能在理论研究与实践之间架设桥梁并找到平衡点。     

大学生中跑运动员跑的技术动作分析

运用运动生理学和运动生物力学原理,借鉴国内外有关体育专家学者的研究成果,以扬州大学高水平田径队中跑训练为研究对象,结合笔者多年中跑运动训练的实践,在对现代中跑动作技术充分认识和分析的基础上,针对大学生中跑运动员训练特点与在训练中主要存在的技术问题,提出了改进技术和提高动作实效性的训练方法。     

判异准则在标准差控制图上的应用

在标准差控制图的八个判异准则基础上,提出了相应的非对称标准差控制图的判异准则,分别给出了它们的实际报警率,并讨论了八个准则应用在标准差控制图时的平均运行长度。
