Synthesis and characterization of linear tetrablock quarterpolymers of styrene,isoprene, dimethylsiloxane,and 2-vinylpyridine

A series of five tetrablock quarterpolymers of styrene, isoprene, dimethylsiloxane, and 2-vinylpyridine with molecular weights varying from 117 × 10³ to 177 × 10³ and having different compositions were synthesized. The synthesis was based on recent advances in the controlled high-vacuum anionic polymerization of hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane and on the selective linking of poly(dimethylsiloxane)lithium with the chlorosilane group of the heterofunctional linking agent chloromethylphenylethylene dimethylchlorosilane. Combined characterization results by size exclusion chromatography, membrane osmometry, and NMR spectroscopy suggested that the synthesized multiblock multicomponent polymers had a high degree of structural and compositional homogeneity. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Gevrey properties of real planar singularly perturbed systems

By applying geometric techniques to real analytic singularly perturbed vector fields on the plane, we develop a way to give a bound on the Gevrey type of the Taylor development of canard manifolds at degenerate planar turning points. By blowing up the phase space at the turning point, we find asymptotic estimates even when such expansions w.r.t. traditional phase space variables do not exist. The asymptotic estimates are then used to give a sufficient and necessary condition on the existence of (local) canard solutions.     

矛盾的根本属性与对外开放

矛盾根本属性原理是我们做好的对外开放工作的指导思想。在对外开放过程中，社会主义中国同国际资本主义双方的矛盾同一性是占据主导地位的，同时也必然存在着矛盾斗争性，但这是第二位的。我们应正确处理对外开放中矛盾同一性与斗争性的关系，着眼于矛盾双方的同一性，使必要的斗争性服务与服从于同一性，以利于对外开放基本国策的实施，加速中国社会主义现代化建设的进程。     

On the number of full levels in tries

We study the asymptotic distribution of the fill‐up level in a binary trie built over n independent strings generated by a biased memoryless source. The fill‐up level is the number of full levels in a tree. A level is full if it contains the maximum allowable number of nodes (e.g., in a binary tree level k can have up to 2^k nodes). The fill‐up level finds many interesting applications, e.g., in the internet IP lookup problem and in the analysis of level compressed tries (LC tries). In this paper, we present a complete asymptotic characterization of the fill‐up distribution. In particular, we prove that this distribution concentrates on one or two points around the most probably value k = ?log_1/qn ? log log log n + 1 + log log(p/q)?, where p > q = 1 ? p is the probability of generating the more likely symbol (while q = 1 ? p is the probability of the less likely symbol). We derive our results by analytic methods such as generating functions, Mellin transform, the saddle point method, and analytic depoissonization. A geometric formula for Haefliger knots

Haefliger has shown that a smooth embedding of the (4k−1)-sphere in the 6k-sphere can be knotted in the smooth sense. In this paper, we give a formula with which we can detect the isotopy class of such a Haefliger knot. The formula is expressed in terms of the geometric characteristics of an extension, analogous to a Seifert surface, of the given embedding. In particular, the Hopf invariant associated to the extension plays a crucial role. This leads us to a new characterisation of Haefliger knots.
