Domain decomposition for an asymptotic geological fault modeling

We present in this paper a domain decomposition method to treat faults in geological basin modeling. The particularity of this model is that the faults whose widths are very small in comparison with the basin size, are not characterized as subdomains any more but as interfaces between sedimentary blocks. The originality of this work lies in the formulation of this new fault model and in the definition and the computation of the interface conditions between the subdomains. Necessary optimality conditions and regularity results for state and adjoint state of nonlinear control problems

For optimal control problems of nonlinear evolution equations of first order we derive regularity properties for the corresponding adjoint states where the proof is based on the necessary optimal conditions and smoothness properites of the optimal states. These results are used for the characterization of the optimal solution and the corresponding adjoint state of the periodic three-dimensionel NAVIER-STOKES system.     

The Different,but Interesting Behaviors of Benzyl Systems in the Willgerodt-Kindler Reaction under Solvent-Free Conditions

On the benzyl system, bearing various functional groups, have been carried out the Willgerodt-Kindler reaction to obtain thiobenzmorpholide ( 1 ). The reactions, under solvent-free conditions, were performed in both classical (reflux, room temperature) and nonclassical (microwave) conditions to attempt our elucidation of the reactions pathways. Unlike benzylamine and benzyl mercaptan, benzyl halides give poor result due to the type of amine. The experimental results suggest that the proposed reaction pathway involves the oxidation coupling of benzylic substrates, followed by a thiolation step and an attack of the amine on the thiolated product to give ( 1 ).     

Efficient Oxidation of Alcohols with KBrO 3 in the Presence of Silica Chloride and Wet SiO 2

Alcohols were oxidized to their corresponding carbonyl compounds with KBrO 3 in the presence of silica chloride and wet SiO 2 , in solution and under solvent free conditions.

THE ADSORPTION OF AN ANIONIC SURFACTANT AT THE OIL WATER INTERFACE DURING EMULSION HOMOGENIZATION

Adsorption of sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (NaDBS) on the surfaces of dispersed oil globules during homogenization of paraffin oil in water emulsions has been studied. NaDBS concentration was changed over a wide interval comprising critical micelle concentration. For the emulsions homogenized for different time intervals the total quantity and the percentage of NaDBS adsorbed, the amount and number of NaDBS molecules adsorbed per unit inter-facial area, as well as the specific surface area of dispersed phase and the area per emulsifier molecule have been determined.

The amount adsorbed and density of the emulsifier layer, I.e., the area per NaDBS molecule adsorbed on the oil globule surfaces, depend not only on Initial NaDBS concentration but also, on the homogenization time and the homogenization action. This makes a difference between the adsorption behaviour under the conditions of emulsion formation and its subsequent homogenization, and the adsorption behaviour of the emulsifier at a plane quiescent Interface.

本文从单个探测器的几何分辨率出发,并考虑到大气传输损失对系统信噪比的影响,提出了热成象系统对面目标的极限作用距离的近似解,并对目标和背景的幅射亮度的计算方法进行了详尽的讨论。最后,作为一个例子,计算了某一实际热成象系统的极限作用距离。     

Projection conditions on the vorticity in viscous incompressible flows

The problem of establishing appropriate conditions for the vorticity transport equation is considered. It is shown that, in viscous incompressible flows, the boundary conditions on the velocity imply conditions of an integral type on the vorticity. These conditions determine a projection of the vorticity field on the linear manifold of the harmonic vector fields. Some computational consequences of the above result in two-dimensional calculations by means of the nonprimitive variables, stream function and vorticity, are examined. As an example of the application of the discrete analogue of the projection conditions, numerical solutions of the driven cavity problem are reported.
