Those who have worked in the Royal Institution of Great Britain have, since its foundation in 1799, made significant contributions
to scientific knowledge, to its practical application, and to its communication to a wide variety of audiences. Such work
cannot be carried out in an architectural vacuum, and in this paper we examine how the buildings of the Royal Institution,
20 and 21 Albemarle Street in central London, have shaped the work undertaken within its walls and how, on a number of occasions,
the buildings have been reconfigured to take account of the evolving needs of scientific research and communication.
This paper is based on the Conservation Plan of the Royal Institution that we wrote during 2003. The Conservation Plan did
not examine the land owned by the Royal Institution to the north (i.e., 22 and 23 Albemarle Street; for this area see Richard Garnier, “Grafton Street, Mayfair,” Georgian Group Journal 13 (2003), 210–272), but it did discuss 18 and 19 Albemarle Street. In this paper we concentrate on the core Royal Institution
buildings at 20 and 21 Albemarle Street. Other studies of the relationship of architecture,space, and science include Crosbie

nineteenth-century science in its social and cultural contexts and is editor of the Correspondence of Michael Faraday. He is President of the British Society for the History of Science. Anthony Peers is an Associate of Rodney Melville and
Partners where he works in the field of building conservation as an architectural historian. He is a Council member of the

This study modelled the rational factors that predict fake news sharing behaviour. It also tested the moderating role of social media literacy skills. The focus was on social media users in Nigeria. An online survey was conducted to gather the responses from participants across Nigerian geopolitical zones. Structural equation modelling (SEM) Smart PLS 3.6 was used to analyse the data. We found that information sharing, the news finds me perception, trust in social media and status-seeking lead to fake news sharing among social media users in Nigeria. Specifically, trust in social media and status-seeking had a greater effect on fake news sharing behaviour. We also found that social media literacy skills significantly moderate the relationship between information sharing, status-seeking, the news finds me perception, trust in social media and fake news sharing in such a way that the effects/relationships are stronger among those with low social media literacy skills. This outcome contributes to theory and practice which was highlighted in the concluding aspect of this study. 相似文献

简要回顾了色谱分析技术的发展史,厘清了某些中文文献中的不妥表述。通过分析色谱发展过程中的几个重要突破,总结了在科学技术创新方面给我们的启示:(1)基础研究始终是色谱技术进步的源泉;(2)社会发展的需求是各种色谱方法创新的驱动力;(3)学科交叉是色谱分析技术创新的重要途径;(4)不懈坚持和勇于探索是科学技术创新的必要条件。最后对色谱发展的前景作了展望。 相似文献

为深入了解地方性师范院校化学师范生知识建构习惯和水平,探讨他们在大学专业基础课程中的学习历程,以物理化学课程中以“融合科学读写特色”的“热化学”学案作为研究载体,研究对象在学案引导下开展自学活动,并在阅读教材和文献基础上进行科学写作。采用量表工具针对大学生自学效果和反思活动进行评价,并采用SOLO分类评价科学写作作品,采用KWL工具评价学生的科学阅读收获。结果发现研究对象学习动机不强,不擅长在新的学科知识学习中联系已有专业课程知识,基于文本学习的建构活动水平极低,可能是因为他们在应试背景下的基础知识并未形成体系,先修课程中并未培养元认知学习策略。 相似文献
