We prove some new evaluations for multiple polylogarithms of arbitrary depth. The simplest of our results is a multiple zeta evaluation one order of complexity beyond the well-known Broadhurst–Zagier formula. Other results we provide settle three of the remaining outstanding conjectures of Borwein, Bradley, and Broadhurst. A complete treatment of a certain arbitrary depth class of periodic alternating unit Euler sums is also given. 相似文献

Typical behaviour of the solution of a linear system of equations obtained iteratively by Krylov methods can be characterized by three stages. Initially the residual diminishes steadily; this is followed by stagnation and finally rapid convergence near the algebraic grade. This study examines this behaviour in terms of the concepts of approximately invariant subspace and what we have called the analytic grade of a Krylov sequence. It is shown how the small Ritz values play a vital role in the convergence and how this knowledge helps in the construction of an effective preconditioner. (σ, β, μ) was thoroughly studied as the extreme value index of a heavy tailed distribution. For 1 < α < 2, Peng (Statist. Probab. Lett. 52: 255–264, 2001) has proposed, via the extreme value approach, an asymptotically normal estimator for the location parameter μ. In this paper, we derive by the same approach, an estimator for the scale parameter σ and we discuss its limiting behavior.

Summary. The convergence rate of Krylov subspace methods for the solution of nonsymmetric systems of linear equations, such as GMRES
or FOM, is studied. Bounds on the convergence rate are presented which are based on the smallest real part of the field of
values of the coefficient matrix and of its inverse. Estimates for these quantities are available during the iteration from
the underlying Arnoldi process. It is shown how these bounds can be used to study the convergence properties, in particular,
the dependence on the mesh-size and on the size of the skew-symmetric part, for preconditioners for finite element discretizations
of nonsymmetric elliptic boundary value problems. This is illustrated for the hierarchical basis and multilevel preconditioners
which constitute popular preconditioning strategies for such problems.

We use boundary value methods to compute consistent initial values for fully implicit nonlinear differential-algebraic equations.
The obtained algorithm uses variable order formulae and a deferred correction technique to evaluate the error. A rigorous
theory is stated for nonlinear index 1, 2 and 3 DAEs of Hessenberg form. Numerical tests on classical index 1, 2 and 3 DAE
problems are reported.

We propose a minimum mean absolute error linear interpolator (MMAELI), based on theL
1 approach. A linear functional of the observed time series due to non-normal innovations is derived. The solution equation
for the coefficients of this linear functional is established in terms of the innovation series. It is found that information
implied in the innovation series is useful for the interpolation of missing values. The MMAELIs of the AR(1) model with innovations
following mixed normal andt distributions are studied in detail. The MMAELI also approximates the minimum mean squared error linear interpolator (MMSELI)
well in mean squared error but outperforms the MMSELI in mean absolute error. An application to a real series is presented.
Extensions to the general ARMA model and other time series models are discussed.
