New FIR laser lines and frequency measurements for optically pumped CD3OH

Twenty new cw FIR laser lines in CD₃OH, optically pumped by a CO₂ laser, are reported. The frequencies of 39 of the stronger laser lines were measured relative to stabilized CO₂ lasers with a fractional uncertainty, as determined by the reproducibility of the FIR frequency itself, of 2 parts in 10⁷.Contribution of the U.S. Government, not subject to copyright.     

Preparation and characterization of optically active polystyrene via a chiral nitroxide‐mediated polymerization

2,2,6,6‐Tetramethyl‐4‐[d‐(+)‐10‐camphorsulfonyl]‐1‐piperidinyloxy was synthesized and used as a chiral nitroxide for the bulk polymerizations of styrene initiated with benzoyl peroxide (BPO), tetraethylthiuram disulfide (TETD), and thermal initiation. The results showed that the polymerizations proceeded in a controlled/living way; that is, the kinetics presented approximately first‐order plots, and the number‐average molecular weights of the polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight) increased with the monomer conversion linearly. The molecular weight distributions in the case of thermal initiation were narrower than those in the case of BPO and TETD, whereas the polymerization rate with BPO or TETD as an initiator was obviously faster than that with thermal initiation. In addition, successful chain‐extension reactions were carried out, and the structures of the obtained polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and ¹H NMR. 新的手性配体促进的二芳基二酸和联萘酚的不对称合成

由手性配体α-D-葡萄糖衍生物5，6，7以及薄荷醇（8）和葑醇（9），经 Ulmann偶联反应得到光学活性的（R）－和（S）－6，6′－二硝基联苯－2，2′－ 二甲酸（4a),(R)-6,6′-二甲基联苯－2，2′-二甲酸（4b),(R)-1,1′－联萘－2 ，2′－二甲酸（13）。以三个手性膦酰胺16，17，18和CuCl组成的手性络合物为 催化剂，通过2－萘酚直接氧化偶联得到（S）－2，2′－联萘酚（15）。产物4， 13，15具有中等ee值的光学活性。     

Synthesis and polymerization of N-[N′-(α-methylbenzyl)aminocarbonyl-n-alkyl]maleimide

Two types of optically active N-[N′-(α-methylbenzyl)amino/carbonyl-n-alkyl]maleimides (MBAC) were synthesized from maleic anhydride, 6-amino-n-caproic acid (or 12-amino-n-dodecanoic acid), and (R)-(+)-α-methylbenzylamine. Radical homopolymerizations of MBAC were performed in several solvents at 60 and 110°C for 24 h to give optically active polymers. Radical copolymerizations of MBAC were performed with styrene (ST) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) in dioxane at 60°C. The monomer reactivity ratios and the Alfrey-Price Q-e values were determined. Chiroptical properties of the polymers and copolymers were investigated. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Chiroptical detection during liquid chromatography,part 5: On-line measurement of circular dichroism spectra Δε(λ) during stops of chromatographic flow

Summary A procedure is described which serves to measure circular dichrograms () on line during stops of flow in liquid chromatography. Since the concentration of substrate in the spectrometer cell during the stop is not known, the differential absorption coefficients are calculated from the experimental differential absorbances A by means of UV absorption (i. e. photomultiplier voltage) data. Verifications of the procedure are obtained by its application to three substrates (Table 1), the () spectra of which were known. The present on-line technique is compared with a corresponding off-line method.The N,N-dimethylthiobenzamides1 and2 as well as the 9,10-phenanthrenequinone7 consist of interconvertible enantiomers because their planar states are destabilized by steric overcrowding of groups. The unknown dichrograms () of1, 2 and7 are obtained (Figs. 2 and 4) and discussed with reference to the helicities of these molecules.In memory of the late Professor Dr. Dr. h. c. Synthesis and structure of the 1,2-isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose 3,5,6-bis-cyclophosphite complex with tungsten(0) pentacarbonyl

Metallocomplexes with optically active ligands are of considerable interest as catalysts of stereoselective processes. A complex of 1,2-isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose 3,5,6-bis-cyclophosphite with tungsten(0) pentacarbonyl has been synthesized for the first time and studied by X-ray crystallography.     

Optically active polymers containing side-chain photochromic moieties: Synthesis and chiroptical properties of copolymers of trans-4-(phenylazo)-1-naphthyl acrylate and trans-4-(1-naphthylazo)-phenyl acrylate with (?)-menthyl acrylate

The synthesis of photochromic optically active copolymers from trans-4-(phenylazo)-1-naphthyl acrylate (PANA), or trans-4-(1-naphthylazo)-phenyl acrylate (NAPA), and (?)-menthyl acrylate (MtA) is described. The copolymers prepared, having different contents of trans-phenylazonaphthalene moieties, have been characterized by IR, ¹H-NMR, UV, and GPC techniques. The chiroptical properties have been investigated by circular dichroism (CD) and the induced optical activity on the side-chain trans-phenylazonaphthalene chromophores discussed in terms of different conformational situations of the macromolecules in both the copolymer series. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Synthesis and characterization of new optically active poly(amide‐imide)s containing epiclon and L‐methionine moieties in the main chain

Epiclon [3a,4,5,7a‐tetrahydro‐7‐methyl‐5‐(tetrahydro‐2,5‐dioxo‐3‐furanyl)‐1,3‐isobenzofurandione] (1) was reacted with L ‐methionine (2) in acetic acid and the resulting imide‐acid 3 was obtained in high yield. The diacid chloride 4 was prepared from diacid derivative 3 by reaction with thionyl chloride. Thermostable poly(amide‐imide)s containing epiclon structure were synthesized by reacting of diacid chloride 4 with various aromatic diamines. Polymerization reaction was performed by two conventional methods: low temperature solution polycondensation and short period reflux conditions. In order to compare conventional solution polycondensation reaction methods with microwave‐assisted polycondensation, the reactions were also carried out under microwave conditions with a small amount of o‐cresol that acts as a primary microwave absorber. The reaction mixture was irradiated for 6 min with 100% radiation power. Several new optically active poly(amide‐imide)s with inherent viscosity ranging from 0.15 to 0.36 dl/g were obtained with high yield. All of the above polymers were fully characterized by ¹H‐NMR, FT‐IR, elemental analyses and specific rotation techniques. Enantioselective synthesis of hydroxy-substituted α-methyl-α-amino acids using Al and Mn derivatives of cyclo-(L-Ala-L-AIa) bis-Iactim ethers

Aluminum and manganese derivatives of lithiated bis-lactim ethers of cyclo-(L-Ala-L-Ala) were used for the enantioselective synthesis of -hydroxy and polyhydroxy -amino acids of the 2-methyIserine series. A new variant of the synthesis of these acids via 3-acyl-2, 5-dialkoxy-3, 6-dimethyl-3, 6-dihydropyrazines is proposed.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk.
