Metastability in the ferromagneticp-state Potts model defined on the Cayley tree is discussed. It is shown that the sign of the boundary fieldH s determines the order of the transition as well as the stability of the low-temperature phase. Lowering the temperature withH s >0, a system withp<2 (p>2) will display a second (first)-order transition to a metastable (stable) phase. ForH s >0 a second (first)-order transition to a metastable (stable) phase occurs ifp>2 (p<2). In this case the system also has a residual entropy which is negative forp<2.  相似文献

A discrete-velocity Boltzmann model is introduced. It is based on two principles: (i) clusters of particles move in 3 with seven fixed momenta; (ii) clusters may gain or lose particles according to the rules of Becker-Döring cluster equations. The model provides a kinetic representation of evaporation and condensation. The model is used to obtain macroscopic fluid equations which are valid into the metastable fluid regime, , where is any positive number, is the inelastic Knudsen number, and s is the saturation density.  相似文献

Properties of metastable long-range Ising models (LRIMs) are studied for deep quenches near the mean-field spinodal with Monte Carlo simulations using Glauber dynamics. The theory of spinodal-assisted nucleation is found to agree well with the data. Two-dimensional lattice-gas models with attractive interactions and particle-conserving hopping dynamics under the influence of a very large external electric field along a principal axis are studied in the case of off-critical densities.
