Clinical ultrasound images are often perceived as difficult to interpret due to image blurring and speckle inherent in the ultrasound imaging. But the image quality can be improved by deconvolution using an estimate of the point-spread function. However, it is difficult to obtain a sufficiently accurate estimate of the point-spread function in vivo because of the unknown properties of the soft tissue in clinical applications. Local variations in the speed of sound and attenuation change the pulse and beam shape. These in turn affect the point-spread function. The purpose and novelty of this paper is therefore to explore the sensitivity of a state-of-the-art deconvolution algorithm to uncertainty in the point-spread function. The point-spread function in our restoration algorithm is made shift invariant in the lateral dimension but shift dependent in the axial direction, and is modelled to match a 128-element 1D linear array often found in clinical use. We present simulated and in vitro sensitivity analyses of two-dimensional deconvolution while varying six parameters on which the point-spread function depends. Uncertainty in the ultrasound machine is analysed by varying the axial depths of lateral and elevational foci alongside height and width of transducer elements. Sensitivity to tissue influence is investigated by varying the speed of sound and frequency-dependent attenuation of the electro-mechanical impulse response. The results are analysed both quantitatively and in terms of the perceived image quality. First, the assessment of deconvolution using the logarithmic image amplitude is found to be a better indicator of the perceived improvement in the restoration. Secondly, the two most critical parameters for two-dimensional deconvolution are discovered to be the lateral focus and the speed of sound, because the success of deconvolution is perceived primarily in terms of deblurring. We also observed similar patterns for the simulation and in vitro experiment. Finally, we show that it is possible to restore in vivo ultrasound images using an assumed point-spread function and hence conclude that an exact point-spread function is not necessary for enhancing ultrasound image quality by deconvolution.  相似文献

This study presents a contribution to the tracking of a moving target during high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment. Indeed, HIFU has proved to be highly efficient in inducing homogeneous and reproducible tumor destruction by thermal coagulation necrosis. However, accurate targeting of human abdominal tumors is difficult to maintain due to the motion induced by breathing. An algorithm is presented to track a region of interest of fixed size in a sequence of images. This algorithm was evaluated on synthetic data and on in vivo sequences of ultrasound liver images acquired using 12 MHz ultrasound imaging probe at a rate of 16 frames/s.The algorithm presented here was derived from the non-linear constant brightness assumption. Since the motion was smooth it was possible to reduce the space of admissible displacements; hence the number of unknown parameters was small compared with the size of the data. The optimal displacement was estimated by a Gauss-Newton method, and the matrix required at each step was assembled by reading the data only once. This algorithm was applied to simulated data, where the true displacement was known and a precise evaluation was possible. The relative error was about 2%. The algorithm was also applied to a video sequence of sonograms acquired during in vivo experiments. These trials were conducted on porcine liver since its size and physiology are similar to humans. Movements were induced by breathing and heart-beating. Two particular frequencies representing breathing (0.26 Hz) and heart beat (1.14 Hz) were identified in the estimated displacement and were correlated with the monitored breathing (0.27 Hz) and electrocardiograms (1.28 Hz). In addition, a region of interest (ROI) modeling the focal zone of a HIFU transducer was tracked along time. Therefore this study provides a mean of determining the location of the targeted region in vivo during HIFU treatments. This can be applied to correct the location of the focal zone accordingly. This method can preferentially be applied to the liver or to any other moving organ.  相似文献

Starting from the assumption that rod cells are sensitive to single photons, we propose a method to verify the existence of a quantum superposition in the retina, observing the Rabi oscillations in the quantum interaction of a coherent laser light with the rod cells. The computer simulation shows that the oscillations visibility is a robust parameter, so that it would be possible to observe the fringes also in presence of strong decoherence. The feasibility of the experiment is ensured by the new MEA (microelectrode array) technology, that allows to record the transretinal voltage change of a single retinal segment.  相似文献

In this work, the feasibility of texture parameters extracted from B-Mode images were explored in quantifying medium temperature variation. The goal is to understand how parameters obtained from the gray-level content can be used to improve the actual state-of-the-art methods for non-invasive temperature estimation (NITE). B-Mode images were collected from a tissue mimic phantom heated in a water bath. The phantom is a mixture of water, glycerin, agar-agar and graphite powder. This mixture aims to have similar acoustical properties to in vivo muscle. Images from the phantom were collected using an ultrasound system that has a mechanical sector transducer working at 3.5 MHz. Three temperature curves were collected, and variations between 27 and 44 °C during 60 min were allowed. Two parameters (correlation and entropy) were determined from Grey-Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) extracted from image, and then assessed for non-invasive temperature estimation. Entropy values were capable of identifying variations of 2.0 °C. Besides, it was possible to quantify variations from normal human body temperature (37 °C) to critical values, as 41 °C. In contrast, despite correlation parameter values (obtained from GLCM) presented a correlation coefficient of 0.84 with temperature variation, the high dispersion of values limited the temperature assessment.  相似文献

Sensors, which are designed and fabricated in complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology, have become increasingly important in the field of bioelectronics. The standardized industry processes enable a fast, cheap, and reliable fabrication of biosensor devices with integrated addressing and processing units. However, the interfacing of such chips with a liquid environment has been a challenge in recent years. Especially for interfacing living cells with CMOS biosensors different elaborate post‐processes have been proposed. In this article we describe a novel and single step passivation of a CMOS biosensor using a bio‐compatible high‐permittivity thin film, which can be directly applied to the top aluminium layer of a CMOS process. The aluminium oxide and hafnium oxide multi‐layer thin films were prepared using atomic layer deposition at low process temperatures. Electrical IV and capacitance measurements as well as electrochemical leakage current measurements were performed on films grown on aluminium bottom electrodes. The films showed a very low leakage current and were stable up to 6 V at a thickness of just 50 nm. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

2D array design based on Fermat spiral for ultrasound imaging   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The main challenge faced by 3D ultrasonic imaging with 2D array transducers is the large number of elements required to achieve an acceptable level of quality in the images. Therefore, the optimisation of the array layout, in order to reduce the number of active elements in the aperture, has been a research topic in the last years. Nowadays, array technology has made viable the production of 2D arrays with larger flexibility on elements size, shape and position, allowing to study other configurations different to the classical matrix organisation, such as circular, archimedes spiral or polygonal layout between others. In this work, the problem of designing an imaging system array with large apertures and a very limited number of active elements (Ne=128 and Ne=256) using the Fermat spiral layout has been studied. As summary, a general discussion about the most interesting cases is presented.  相似文献

Hydrothermal growth of hexagonal ZnO nanorods on the annealed titanate nanotube films is reported as a function of molar ratio of Zn(NO3)2 and methenamine (1:1-1:4). The molar ratio of 1:4 results in a dense and thinner rod in comparison with other molar ratios. Corn-like structures of the rods are believed to be due to the higher amine concentration. Raman peaks at 437 and 331 cm−1 are assigned to E2 and E2H-E2L modes. Near band gap edge and green photoluminescence emission indicates the structural and oxygen vacancy. O 1s peak is found built-up of sub-peaks at 530.62, 531.8 and 532.84 eV corresponding to O2− on normal wurtzite structure and OH and oxygen vacancies of ZnO, respectively.  相似文献
