The Effect of Cyclodextrins on the Photochemical Stability of 7-Amino-4-methylcoumarin in Aqueous Solution

The effect of -, - and -cyclodextrin onthe photochemical stability of 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin (C120)was studied. Using spectroscopic techniques (UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence, fluorescence anisotropy and circular dichroism) combined with HPLC/MS and MS analysis it was demonstrated that addition of -cyclodextrin to the aqueoussolution of C120 markedly inhibits the photodegradation of that dye. This results from theformation of an inclusion complex between C120 and -cyclodextrin.     

Effects of pH and Dye Concentration on the Optical and Structural Properties of Coumarin-4 Dye-Doped SiO2-PDMS Xerogels

Optical and structural properties of coumarin-4 dye-doped SiO₂-PDMS xerogels synthesized by acid catalyzed (one-step) and acid-base catalyzed (two-step) sol-gel routes with varying pH (0.6 to 7) and dye content ( 5 × 10^–4 to 5 × 10^–2 mole) are reported. Spectroscopic methods such as photo-luminescence, FT-IR and FT-Raman were used for characterizations. The acid catalyzed xerogels prepared with pH < 2.5 exhibited two fluorescence peaks, I at 390 nm and II at 480 nm. The acid-base catalyzed xerogels synthesized with pH < 2.5 also exhibited two peaks, I at 400 nm and II at 475 nm. Peak II was not observed for the samples with pH 2.5. This phenomenon was attributed to the existence of pH dependent different forms of coumarin-4 molecule. The concentration-quenching phenomenon was observed for the acid catalyzed xerogels prepared with different dye concentration. TheFT-IR spectra indicated the existence of hydrogen bonds between the carbonyl groups of dye molecules and the silanol groups of gel matrix. The hydrogen bonding was the highest for the samples with the extremity pH, 0.6 and 7, resulting in the highest dye/gel matrix interactions, hence, the highest fluorescence peaks. The Raman studies indicated that the samples prepared with pH < 2.5 possessed relatively more number of 3-membered siloxane rings than 4-membered siloxane rings. The ring statistics was reversed for the samples with pH > 2.5. The number of silanol groups was higher for the samples with pH > 2.5.     

Chemical constituents from the roots of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Polygonum bistorta</Emphasis>

Investigation of the roots of Polygonum bistorta L. afforded seven compounds including five triterpenoids, a coumarin, and a steroid, the structures of which were identified by EIMS, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, DEPT, and HMBC experiments. A Novel Dimeric Coumarin from Clausena lenis

A novel dimeric coumarin (1), a dimeric of seselin named diseselin A, was isolated from the aerial part of Clausena lenis. The structure was elucidated based on the MS, 1D and 2D NMR data.     

Synthesis and anticholinesterase activity of some new fluorogenic analogues of organophosphorus nerve agents

Eighteen new fluorogenic analogues of organophosphorus nerve agents were synthesised and characterised. They included analogues of tabun, sarin, cyclosarin, soman, VX, and Russian VX, with the 7-oxy-4-methylcoumarin or 7-oxy-4-(trifluoromethyl)coumarin leaving group. These analogues inhibited acetylcholinesterase (AChE) effectively in vitro and therefore have potential as tools for the identification of novel organophosphatases in biological systems. Analogues of VX and Russian VX with the 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin group, although poor AChE inhibitors, may have utility for screening enzyme libraries for phosphoramidases capable of cleaving P-N bonds.

Syntheses of Some 3—[1′（1′H）—Substituent—pyrazol—5′—yl] benzo [5,6] coumarins

3-[1′(1′H)-Substituent-pyrazol-5′-yl]benzo[5,6]coumarins and 3-(1′,2′-oxazol-5′-yl)benzo[5,6]coumarin were prepared via condensation of 3-(2′-formyl-1′-chlorovinyl)benzo[5,6] coumarin with hydrazine derivatives or hydroxylamine.Reaction of 3-[1′(1′H)-pyrazol-5′-yl]benzo[5,6]coumarin with alkyl halides,olefinic compunds or acid chlorides are described.     

Microwave-promoted automated synthesis of a coumarin library

A 30-membered library of coumarins has been synthesized in a microwave-assisted Pechmann reaction using neat trifluoroacetic acid both as an acidic reagent and a reaction medium. Alternatively, polymer-supported sulfonic acid Amberlyst-15 could also be employed to facilitate the formation of coumarins. Two new compounds from the fruit of Ailanthus altissima

A new phenolic derivative, 4-hydroxyphenol-1-O-[6-O-(E)-feruloyl-β-d-glucopyranosyl]-(1→6)-β-d-glucopyranoside (1), and a new terpenylated coumarin, named altissimacoumarin H (2) were identified from the fruit of Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle (Simaroubaceae), together with ten known compounds (3–12), including two coumarins and eight phenylpropanoids. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical method and spectroscopic data. Antiviral effect against Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) of all the compounds obtained were evaluated using leaf-disc method.
