A novel instrument, based on cavity-ringdown spectroscopy (CRDS), has been developed for trace gas detection. The new instrument utilizes a widely tunable optical parametric oscillator (OPO), which incorporates a zinc–germanium–phosphide (ZGP) crystal that is pumped at 2.8 μm by a 25-Hz Er,Cr:YSGG laser. The resultant mid-IR beam profile is nearly Gaussian, with energies exceeding 200 μJ/pulse between 6 and 8 μm, corresponding to a quantum conversion efficiency of approximately 35%. Vapor-phase mid-infrared spectra of common explosives (TNT, TATP, RDX, PETN and Tetryl) were acquired using the CRDS technique. Parts-per-billion concentration levels were readily detected with no sample preconcentration. A collection/flash-heating sequence was implemented in order to enhance detection limits for ambient air sampling. Detection limits as low as 75 ppt for TNT are expected, with similar concentration levels for the other explosives. In this article, we present studies on therahertz (THz) wave generation and frequency up-conversion in a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) crystal. A frequency at 1.37 THz was generated as femtosecond pump pulses passed through a PPLN crystal with grating periods of 30 μm. The pump-induced THz wave interacts with the probe wave in the crystal by frequency mixing. The frequency up-converted THz wave is easily detected by a normal photodiode. A new scheme for generation and detection of THz wave in one non-linear crystal was proposed.  相似文献

Doppler-broadened atomic and molecular spectra were observed with a one octave tunable, continuous-wave, doubly resonant, monolithic optical parametric oscillator (OPO) using 5% MgO-doped LiNbO3 as a non-linear crystal with a birefringent phase-matching configuration. By tuning the frequency of a pump laser, longitudinal mode selection over 20 successive modes, corresponding to a 60 GHz span, was possible, owing to the simple structure of the monolithic OPO. Continuous frequency tuning was achieved using an external waveguide-type electrooptic phase modulator (EOM). By changing the modulation frequency of the EOM, frequency tuning of the optical sidebands over 12 GHz was possible, which is larger than the one free spectral range of the monolithic cavity of 3 GHz. We could observe the Cs-D1 (894 nm), Cs-D2 (852 nm), Rb-D1 (795 nm), acetylene R9 (1520 nm) and P9 (1530 nm) transitions with the single monolithic OPO.  相似文献

A multi-grating periodically poled LiNb03 (PPLN) doubly resonant optical parametric oscillator (DROPO) pumped by a 2-ttm laser is demonstrated experimentally. Employing acousto-optically Q-switched Tm,Ho:GdV04 laser with pump pulse of 25ns and repetition rate of lOkHz as pump sources firstly, the noncritically quasi- phase-matched (QPM) tunable mid-IR output in 3.87-4.43 μm is produced. Wavelength tuning is achieved with crystal temperature tuning from 50-180^o C. When the incident average pump power is 3 W at 2.048μm, the total OPO output power of 195mW at wavelength 3.88μm is obtained, corresponding to optical-to-optical conversion efficiency up to 6.5%.  相似文献

We investigate the spatial behaviour of the quantum-noise-reduction spectrum of the vacuum state emitted by a degenerate optical parametric oscillator below threshold. In view of possible experimental implementations, we consider a mode-degenerate resonator and two matching lenses and show that, for the realistic case of a finite-width pump, significant level of squeezing can be observed in a very small region of the beam. We report on a femtosecond optical parametric oscillator (OPO) with a repetition rate of 1 GHz, which is 12 times that of the pump laser used. We also introduce a novel method for operating an OPO with a high harmonic repetition rate which is not determined by the cavity length of the OPO, but rather the cavity length difference between the OPO and its pump laser. Operation of an OPO at 4-times the harmonic repetition rate has been carried out to show the feasibility of this method. The new approach paves the way for constructing a femtosecond OPO working at repetition rates of 10 GHz, or higher, when the pump laser used has a relatively low repetition rate. We compare the Q parameter obtained from scalar, semi-analytical and full vector models for realistic transmission systems. One set of systems is operated in the linear regime, while another is using solitons at high peak power. We report in detail on the different results obtained for the same system using different models. Polarisation mode dispersion is also taken into account and a novel method to average Q parameters over several independent simulation runs is described.  相似文献

We report a technique for detecting weak scattered light pulses based on a 532 nm pumped picosecond β-barium-borate collinear optical parametric amplifier. The measured maximum slope gain factor of the amplifier was found to be around 107, and the energy detection limit was of the order of fJ/pulse for the signal of 730 nm and the idler of 1.5 μm at a pumping intensity of 2.83 GW/cm2. The linearity of the gain for this amplifier was found to be excellent for a seeding level of lower than 420 fJ per pulse. The maximum gains and the energy detection limits for the scattered light pulses from various scattering targets were found to be poorer than that from the reflective mirror, owing to the degraded beam quality and the depolarization of the scattered light. A reduction of the maximum gain for the scattered light with the increase of the angle of incidence, which causes pulse broadening and reduces the photon flux of the signal, was investigated. The feasibility of detecting weak scattered light in the infrared by using idler-to-signal frequency up-conversion was also demonstrated, in which the infrared seeder located in the idler branch of the amplifier was injected as the seeding beam and was then parametrically up-converted into the visible signal branch, with an even higher gain.  相似文献

Nonlinearity enhancement by slow light effect and strong light confinement in defect Bragg fibres is demonstrated and anMysed in applications of fibre optical parametric amplifiers. Broadband low group velocity and zero dispersion as well as the strong light confinement by band gap enhances the nonlinear coefficient up to more than one order than the conventional high nonlinear fibres. Moreover, the zero dispersion wavelength of coupled core mode can be designed arbitrarily, under which the phase-matching bandwidth of the nonlinear process can be extended.  相似文献
