Non-zero dispersion fiber (NZDF) ribbon cable has recently become a considerable alternative in long-haul high-speed network construction. Since long-distance high-bit rate transmission requires low polarization mode dispersion (PMD), it is very important to know the PMD performance of this type of optical fiber cables. In this paper, we report experimental analysis of effects of the cable design and environmental parameters, in particular ribbon thickness, positions of fibers in the ribbon, flexing and vibration, on PMD performances of several slotted-core fiber ribbon cables. Results show that ribbon thickness and positions of fibers in the ribbon alter the PMD values of NZDF ribbon cables. Also, 23% and 11% PMD variations have been determined in flexing and vibration experiments, respectively. Moreover, it has been observed that vibration amplitude has significant effects and vibration frequency has little effects (14% and 6% variations, respectively) on fiber PMD. Results are important for understanding effects of installation conditions and wind, especially for aerial fibers, on PMD values of cables.  相似文献

Because of the complicated geometry of the slotted structure, analytical theories of such structures are inevitably developed on the basis of simplifying assumptions. On the other hand, the accuracy of the theory is of importance to the design of microwave interaction structures. In this study, modes of the slotted waveguide are investigated analytically and simulated with the HFSS code. It is shown that, in spite of the approximations made, the dispersion relation and field patterns of the standard analytical theory are in excellent agreement with the HFSS simulations over the complete range of the slot depth. Modes not built into the theory will also be noted.  相似文献

As a result of densification, the performance of the wireless networks has become highly interference-limited and energy inefficient. To overcome this problem, interference mitigation techniques such as Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) can be used to decode multiple packets simultaneously at the receiver. In this context, we analyze a SIC-based Slotted Aloha (SIC-SA) Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for wireless networks. We derive expressions for packets decoding probability and optimal transmission probability of the nodes of the SIC-SA MAC protocol. Our derivation is based on the order statistics of Independent and Identical/non-Identical exponentially distributed received-signal-powers from the nodes under the Rayleigh channel condition. Throughput, delay, and energy efficiency of the SIC-SA MAC protocol have been derived and validated against simulation. The effect of path loss exponent, SINR threshold, and the number of nodes on the performance of SIC-SA have been studied. The performance of SIC-SA in a network of nodes distributed randomly according to the Poisson Point Process has been analyzed. Extension of our analysis to Power Domain Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) has been demonstrated. We also analyzed the impact of imperfect estimation of channel state information and imperfect SIC at the receiver. Results show an improvement in performance metrics of SIC-SA over the traditional Slotted Aloha.  相似文献

An electrorheological (ER) response is defined as the dramatic change in rheological properties of a suspension of small particles due to the application of a large electric field transverse to the direction of flow. ER fluids are typically composed of nonconducting or semiconducting particles dispersed in a nonconducting continuous phase. A sufficiently large electric field will cause ER fluids to solidify, giving rising to a yield stress. Many applications in torque and stress transfer devices were proposed employing the reversible yielding behavior of ER fluids. Successful applications depend on a large yield stress of ER fluids and therefore accurate measurements of the yield stress of ER fluids are required. Reported experimental yield stresses of ER fluids have been dynamic yield stresses obtained by extrapolating the shear stress–shear rate data to zero-shear rate. It would be very helpful to the understanding of ER behaviors and the applications of ER fluids to be able to measure the static yield stress of ER fluids accurately. The slotted plate technique has been shown to be a successful method to determine the static yield stress of suspensions. The values obtained via the slotted plate method are static yield stress as the platform is designed for extremely low-speed motion. In this study, we modified the slotted plate device for the application of large electric fields and measured the static yield stress of TiO2 ER fluids under various electric fields. The measured static yield stress values are also compared with the static yield stress values from a commercial rheometer.  相似文献

A compact and sensitive electro-optical sensor based on slotted photonic crystal waveguide (S-PhCW) is demonstrated. The electro-optical sensor can be realized in photonic crystal (PhC) slabs of silicon in Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI). Nonlinear optical polymer is used as infiltration. By applying three-dimensional finite difference time domain (3D-FDTD), the sensitivity and quality factor of electro-optical sensor with different slotted waveguide width are calculated. In addition, sensitivity and the optical properties such as transmission spectrum and field distributions are compared between electro-optical sensor based on line defect photonic crystal waveguide (W1-PhCW) and that based on slotted photonic crystal waveguide (S-PhCW). Simulation results demonstrate that, compared with electro-optical sensor based on line defect photonic crystal waveguide, the sensitivity and quality factor is improved by 30 times and 6.6 times respectively in sensor based on slotted photonic crystal waveguide. Besides, the proposed PhC sensor devices have the advantage of a compact structure with the potential for monolithic integration with optical-to-electrical on-chip conversion and detection.  相似文献

A modified slotted shear test based on ASTM B831 is proposed and used for determining the mechanical behavior of a solid polymer at large deformations. The shear stress-strain response of a thin sheet of polytetrafluoroethylene was experimentally investigated and a V-notched rail shear test was carried out to validate the experimental results obtained with the proposed approach. Displacement and strain fields of the test specimens were estimated by the Digital Image Correlation method. The results indicate agreement between both tests for small deformations, while for large deformations significant discrepancies in shear stress-strain responses are observed. These discrepancies can be attributed to unwanted distortions of the gage section observed in the V-notched specimens. The modified slotted shear test provided a uniform shear strain distribution across the gauge section of specimens. In addition, the principal advantages of the proposed approach over V-notched rail shear test are a wide range of shear strains and absence of unwanted distortions.  相似文献
