Bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) have been intensively studied in the past decade, but precise understanding of BESs performance is hindered by unclear definition of several key parameters. Herein, we analyze and discuss three sets of terms about conversion efficiency, energy performance, and pilot scale. It is suggested that ‘Coulombic recovery’ can avoid the misleading results because of different organic removals, compared with ‘Coulombic efficiency.’ Power density is not a suitable term to describe energy performance of BESs, and energy production/consumption should be reported in the energy unit such as kWh. Pilot-scale BESs should meet several criteria, including hydraulic capacity, use of actual wastewater, non-laboratory condition, and long-term operation. Proper use of those terms is strongly encouraged and will be critically important to BESs research and development. 相似文献

In this paper, we present a new method for the automated detection of sperm whale regular clicks and creaks based on statistical computations. In the first stage, a spectrogram is computed from the input waveform, followed by a noise normalisation process. A frequency domain filter is then applied, and the energy accumulated in each time frame is calculated. Two-second time-windows are then classified as containing either regular clicks, creaks, or noise based on statistical parameters using a neural network classifier. Finally, previously obtained statistical parameters are used to implement an energy-based detection criterion for the classified time-windows. Individual regular clicks and creaks are isolated by linking contiguous detected time frames. The proposed method was tested on five recordings of sperm whale sounds. Comparison of the detection performances to hand-labelled regular clicks and creaks revealed that this method outperforms two recently reported waveform-based methods when working with the same recordings files. Inhibitors formed during wood hydrolysis constitute a major problem in fermenting dilute-acid hydrolysates. By applying a
fed-batch technique, the levels of inhibitory compounds may be held low, enabling high ethanol productivity. In this study,
a previously developed fed-batch strategy was modified and implemented for use in pilot development unit (PDU) scale. The
rate of total gas formation, measured with a mass flow meter, was used as input variable in the control algorithm. The feed
rate in the PDU-scale experiments could be properly controlled based on the gas evolution from the reactor. In fed-batch experiments
utilizing TMB 3000, an inhibitor-tolerant strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, close to 100% of the hexoses in the hydrolysate was converted. 相似文献

The capabilities of National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) and selected outside “expert” laboratories of determining the mass
fractions of the main and minor elements Cu, Pb, Sn, Fe, and Ni in a lead-containing brass were assessed. This pilot study
P76 was organized as an activity of the Inorganic Analysis Working Group of CCQM and was piloted by the Federal Institute
for Materials Research and Testing (BAM). In total 12 laboratories (four NMIs and eight outside labs) submitted results, some
of them more than one set of results per element. The laboratories were free to choose any analytical method they wanted to
use for the analysis. Consequently various methods of measurement were employed: inductively coupled plasma optical emission
spectrometry (ICP–OES), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP–MS), instrumental neutron-activation analysis (INAA),
titrimetry, flame atomic-absorption spectrometry (FAAS), spectrophotometry (MAS), electrogravimetry, and gravimetric analysis.
After testing for homogeneity within BAM, a certified reference material of lead-containing brass was used as test sample
without informing the participants about the source of the material. The agreement of the results for all elements investigated
was acceptable and mean values calculated from the results of all participants were close to the certified mass fractions
of the CRM used as test sample. No statistically significant differences between the results of the NMIs and those of the
non-NMIs could be observed. 相似文献

Concern is growing over the contamination of the environment with pharmaceutical residues, among which non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs) are one of the most abundant groups. Their widespread appearance in the aquatic environment is because of their
high consumption and their incomplete removal during wastewater treatment. Because effective operation of wastewater-treatment
plants is important for minimising the release of xenobiotic compounds, for example pharmaceutical products, into the aquatic
environment, our study focuses on removal of commonly used NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, diclofenac) and clofibric
acid in a specially designed small-scale pilot wastewater treatment plant (PWWTP). This study shows that, except for diclofenac,
steady-rate removal of NSAIDs over a two-year monitoring period has been achieved. Elimination of the compounds in the PWWTP
was ≥87% for ibuprofen, naproxen and ketoprofen but only 49–59% for diclofenac. We also studied clofibric acid. Results after
one month of operation revealed 30% elimination with no sign of adaptation by the biomass. Also described are degradation
products of diclofenac, which we were able to identify because of the similarity of their mass spectra with those in the NIST
library and by comparing the retention times of different compounds. Although the structures of these compounds were confirmed
with a high probability (99%), we still need to compare the fragmentation of authentic compounds with degradation products
formed under our experimental conditions. Degradation products of ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen, and clofibric acid were
found but these must be identified by use of high-resolution mass spectrometry and analysis of authentic compounds. 相似文献

Aqueous-ammonia-steeped switchgrass was subject to simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) in two pilot-scale
bioreactors (50- and 350-L working volume). Switchgrass was pretreated by soaking in ammonium hydroxide (30%) with solid to
liquid ratio of 5 L ammonium hydroxide per kilogram dry switchgrass for 5 days in 75-L steeping vessels without agitation
at ambient temperatures (15 to 33 °C). SSF of the pretreated biomass was carried out using Saccharomyces cerevisiae (D5A) at approximately 2% glucan and 77 filter paper units per gram cellulose enzyme loading (Spezyme CP). The 50-L fermentation
was carried out aseptically, whereas the 350-L fermentation was semiaseptic. The percentage of maximum theoretical ethanol
yields achieved was 73% in the 50-L reactor and 52–74% in the 350-L reactor due to the difference in asepsis. The 350-L fermentation
was contaminated by acid-producing bacteria (lactic and acetic acid concentrations approaching 10 g/L), and this resulted
in lower ethanol production. Despite this problem, the pilot-scale SSF of aqueous-ammonia-pretreated switchgrass has shown
promising results similar to laboratory-scale experiments. This work demonstrates challenges in pilot-scale fermentations
with material handling, aseptic conditions, and bacterial contamination for cellulosic fermentations to biofuels. 相似文献

针对溢油应急响应中海上油膜所具有的动态特性,综合考虑需求点的时变物资需求、运输网络的不确定性以及物资调度决策与外部决策环境之间的相互作用关系之后,构建了效率目标与成本目标相结合的多目标海上溢油应急物资调度优化模型。根据模型的特点,提出了一种基于鲸鱼算法的求解方法。该算法利用非线性收敛因子克服了算法后期易陷入局部最优的不足,同时还引入小生境共享机制以确保解的多样性。最后,通过仿真案例对模型与算法的有效性与可行性进行了验证。结果表明,该方法可以为决策者提供高质量的决策支持。 相似文献

Applying the pilot method to improve VNS and GRASP metaheuristics for the design of SDH/WDM networks
Variable neighborhood search (VNS) and Greedy randomized adaptive search procedure (GRASP) are among the well studied local search based metaheuristics providing good results for many combinatorial optimization problems throughout the last decade. While they are usually explored in different environments one may encounter quite obvious commonalities. Based on previous successful applications of these two types of metaheuristics on various network design problems in telecommunications, we further enhance these approaches by incorporating ideas from the pilot method. The different heuristics are compared among each other as well as against objective function values obtained from a mathematical programming formulation based on a commercial solver. The problem instances cover a large variety of networks and demand patterns. 相似文献

Due to recent advances in passive acoustic monitoring techniques, beaked whales are now more effectively detected acoustically than visually during vessel-based (e.g. line-transect) surveys. Beaked whales signals can be discriminated from those of other cetaceans by the unique characteristics of their echolocation clicks (e.g. duration >175 μs, center frequencies between 30 and 40 kHz, inter-click intervals between 0.2 and 0.4 s and frequency upsweeps). Furthermore, these same characteristics make these signals ideal candidates for testing automated detection and classification algorithms. There are several different beaked whale automated detectors currently available for use. However, no comparative analysis of detectors exists. Therefore, comparison between studies and datasets is difficult. The purpose of this study was to test, validate, and compare algorithms for detection of beaked whales in acoustic line-transect survey data. Six different detection algorithms (XBAT, Ishmael, PAMGUARD, ERMA, GMM and FMCD) were evaluated and compared. Detection trials were run on three sample days of towed-hydrophone array recordings collected by NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) during which were confirmed visual sightings of beaked whales (Ziphius cavirostris and Mesoplodon peruvianus). Detections also were compared to human verified acoustic detections for a subset of these data. In order to measure the probabilities of false detection, each detector was also run on three sample recordings containing clicks from another species: Risso’s dolphin (Grampus griseus). Qualitative and quantitative comparisons and the detection performance of the different algorithms are discussed. 相似文献
