Reaction of octafluorocyclopentene with various carbon nucleophiles

The treatment of octafluorocyclopentene with organolithium reagents gave the corresponding symmetrical disubstituted perfluorocyclopentenes in good to high yields. The reaction with Grignard reagents led to the monosubstituted perfluorocyclopentenes, which were subjected to the further nucleophilic substitution reaction using another Grignard or aryllithium reagents, unsymmetrical disubstituted perfluorocyclopentenes being obtained in high yields.     

Reaction and sensing of octafluorocyclopentene with 1,5-diazabicyclo[4,3,0]non-5-ene

Reactions of octafluorocyclopentene (C₅F₈) with 1,5-diazabicyclo[4,3,0]non-5-ene (DBN) are studied by analyses of an isolated product and optical spectra from the viewpoint of applications to gas-sensors. Obtained results suggest that nucleophilic reactions of DBN proceed toward the double bond of C₅F₈ molecule accompanied with hydroxide anion attack on carbon-fluoride bonds of C₅F₈ moiety under ambients, forming unique C₅F₈-modified adducts. The present reaction is conducive to a new type of technologies for quick and selective sensing that can be used to develop alarm systems in the field of the environment and etching processing factories.     

FTIR spectroscopy and radiative forcing of octafluorocyclobutane and octofluorocyclopentene

High-resolution (0.03 cm⁻¹) absolute infrared photoabsorption cross-sections of octafluorocyclobutane (c-C₄F₈) and octafluorocyclopentene (c-C₅F₈) have been measured using Fourier-transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy at 279 and 297 K. Radiative forcing and global warming potential of these two species was estimated using the measured infrared cross section spectra.
