In this paper we study higher Chow groups of smooth, projective surfaces over a field k of characteristic zero, using some new Hodge theoretic methods which we develop for this purpose. In particular we investigate the subgroup of CH r+1 (X,r) with r = 1,2 consisting of cycles that are supported over a normal crossing divisor Z on X. In this case, the Hodge theory of the complement forms an interesting variation of mixed Hodge structures in any geometric deformation of the situation. Our main result is a structure theorem in the case where X is a very general hypersurface of degree d in projective 3-space for d sufficiently large and Z is a union of very general hypersurface sections of X. In this case we show that the subgroup of CH r+1 (X,r) we consider is generated by obvious cycles only arising from rational functions on X with poles along Z. This can be seen as a generalization of the Noether–Lefschetz theorem for r = 0. In the case r = 1 there is a similar generalization by Müller-Stach, but our result is more precise than it, since it is geometric and not only cohomological. The case r = 2 is entirely new and original in this paper. For small d, we construct some explicit examples for r = 1 and 2 where the corresponding higher Chow groups are indecomposable, i.e. not the image of certain products of lower order groups. In an appendix Alberto Collino constructs even more indecomposable examples in CH 3 (X,2) which move in a one-dimensional family on the surface X.Contribution to appendix.  相似文献

We study some explicit relations between the canonical line bundle and the Hodge bundle over moduli spaces for low genus. This leads to a natural measure on the moduli space of every genus which is related to the Siegel symplectic metric on Siegel upper half-space as well as to the Hodge metric on the Hodge bundle.  相似文献

We consider the eigenvalue problem for Hodge-Laplacian on a Riemannian manifold M isometrically immersed into another Riemannian manifold M¯. We first assume the pull back Weitzenböck operator of M¯ bounded from below, and obtain an extrinsic lower bound for the first eigenvalue of Hodge-Laplacian. As applications, we obtain some rigidity results. Second, when the pull back Weitzenböck operator of M¯ bounded from both sides, we give a lower bound of the first eigenvalue by the Ricci curvature of M and some extrinsic geometry. As a consequence, we prove a weak Ejiri type theorem, that is, if the Ricci curvature bounded from below pointwisely by a function of the norm square of the mean curvature vector, then M is a homology sphere. In the end, we give an example to show that all the eigenvalue estimates are optimal when M¯ is the space form.  相似文献

In the paper Geometric K-Theory for Lie Groups and Foliations, Baum and Connes conjecture in a remark following Corollary 2 of their famous Isomorphism conjecture that for a finitely generated group with torsion, the trace map tr: K0(C*)R maps K0(C*) onto the additive subgroup of Q generated by all rational numbers of the form 1/n where n is the order of a finite subgroup of . On a compact orientable Riemannian manifold, the Hodge Laplacian has compact resolvent, therefore a spectral gap, and the dimension of the space of harmonic -forms is a topological invariant. By contrast, on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds, is known to have various pathologies, among them the absence of a spectral gap and either ``too large' or ``too small' a space . In this article we use a heat kernel measure to determine the space of square-integrable forms and to construct the appropriate Laplacian . We recover in the noncompact case certain results of Hodge's theory of in the compact case. If the Ricci curvature of a noncompact connected Riemannian manifold is bounded below, then this ``heat kernel weighted Laplacian' acts on functions on in precisely the manner we would wish, that is, it has a spectral gap and a one-dimensional kernel. We prove that the kernel of on -forms is zero-dimensional on , as we expect from topology, if the Ricci curvature is nonnegative. On Euclidean space, there is a complete Hodge theory for . Weighted Laplacians also have a duality analogous to Poincaré duality on noncompact manifolds. Finally, we show that heat kernel-like measures give desirable spectral properties (compact resolvent) in certain general cases. In particular, we use measures with Gaussian decay to justify the statement that every topologically tame manifold has a strong Hodge decomposition.

Let (B n) be the order complex of the Boolean algebra and let B(n, k) be the part of (B n) where all chains have a gap at most k between each set. We give an action of the symmetric group S l on the l-chains that gives B(n, k) a Hodge structure and decomposes the homology under the action of the Eulerian idempontents. The S n action on the chains induces an action on the Hodge pieces and we derive a generating function for the cycle indicator of the Hodge pieces. The Euler characteristic is given as a corollary.We then exploit the connection between chains and tabloids to give various special cases of the homology. Also an upper bound is obtained using spectral sequence methods.Finally we present some data on the homology of B(n, k).  相似文献

Abstract For the generalized Beltrami system with two characteristic matrices, we deal with the regularity of its very weak solutions in the Sobolev class (1 < r < n). By changing the generalized Beltrami system into a class of a divergent elliptic system with nonhomogeneous items, we obtain that each of its very weak solutions is essentially a classical weak solution of a usual Sobolev class. Furthermore, we also establish a higher regularity of its weak solution if the regularity hypotheses of two characteristic matrices are improved.
