Controlled drug delivery remains a research focus for public health to enhance patient compliance, drug efficiency and reduce the side effects of drugs. Pectin, an edible plant polysaccharide, has been shown to be useful for the construction of drug delivery systems for specific drug delivery. Several pectin derived formulations have been developed in our laboratory and tested in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo for the ability to deliver bioactive substances for therapeutic purposes in the context of interactions with living tissues. Pectin derivatives carrying primary amine groups were more mucoadhesive and have shown potential in nasal drug delivery and other mucosal drug delivery. Pectin derivatives with highly esterified galacturonic acid residues are more hydrophobic and able to sustain the release of incorporated fragrances for a prolonged duration. Less esterified pectin derivatives are able to penetrate deeper into the skin and may be useful in aromatherapy formulations. Pectin, in combination with zein, a corn protein, forms hydrogel beads. The bound zein restricts bead swelling and retains the porosity of the beads; the pectin networks shield the zein from protease attack. The complex beads are ideal vehicles for colon-specific drug delivery. Studies presented in this paper indicate the flexibility and possibility to tailor pectin macromolecules into a variety of drug delivery systems to meet different clinical requirements. AHTN (7-Acetyl-1,1,3,4,4,6-hexamethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene), commercially known as fixolide or tonalide, is a synthetic fragrance widely used in replace of natural musk odor which is more expensive. It is a popular fragrance material added in the manufacturing of personal care and household products, such as perfumes, soaps, shampoos, detergents, and fabric softeners. AHTN is semivolatile and is degraded under light exposure and high temperature. This work focuses on the complexation of AHTN with cyclodextrins in the effort to stabilize the fragrance material. AHTN was complexed with β-cyclodextrin, methyl (MβCD), and hydroxypropyl (HPβCD) derivatives in the mole ratio 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 guest:host, and the complexes formed by physical mixing, co-precipitation, kneading, and freeze-drying were analyzed by DSC and FTIR. Percent AHTN included in the complex was also determined by hexane extraction and GC analysis. It was found that no inclusion complex was formed in the physical mixture. When co-precipitation method was performed, only βCD could form inclusion complex with AHTN, while the other two derivatives could not. Using 1:2 AHTN:βCD, no free AHTN was left in the complex as evidenced by DSC and FTIR spectrum. In kneading and freeze-drying methods, complexes could be formed with all CDs tested. However, co-precipitation method with 1:2 AHTN:βCD and kneading method with 1:2 AHTN:MβCD provided the highest complex yield with highest amount of AHTN included in the complex. AHTN in the complex form was more stable against high temperature and UV exposure than its free form.  相似文献

A novel Headspace Solid Phase Microextraction (HS‐SPME) protocol is proposed for the analysis of floral scent. Volatile compounds emitted from the flower are collected on a Carboxen/PDMS fiber for 1 hour, transferred to the GC, and analyzed by GC/MS. The method completely eliminates the use of organic solvents, does not require special instrumentation, and may readily be performed in the field without access to mains electricity and other energy supplies. The method is robust, sensitive, and reduces the sampling stress on the investigated plant. Since enzymatic reactions in living flowers may cause changes in the composition of emitted fragrance, dried rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) was used as a stable standard for the method development and optimization. In addition, grape wine was also suggested as homogeneous, bio‐compatible, and relatively stable standard of pronounced and typical scent for the same purpose. The optimized method was used for the comparative investigation of the fragrances emitted by two different species – Lathyrus vernus (L.) and Orchis pallens (L.). Several monoterpenes (C10 compounds) were found as the main fragrance components of lathyrus, while sesquiterpenes (C15 compounds) were typical for the orchid.  相似文献

A gas chromatographic (GC)-mass spectrometric (GC-MS) method has been developed for the routine analysis of 11 fragrance substances in cosmetics: cinnamic alcohol, cinnamic aldehyde, eugenol, hydroxy citronellal, α-amyl cinnamic aldehyde, geraniol, isoeugenol, coumarin, dihydrocoumarin, citronellal and citral. Methods for sample preparation of various types of cosmetic products, prior to GC analysis, have also been developed and proved to be rugged. Detection limits of all of target fragrance substances were approximately 1 ppm. Calibration curves of the target fragrance substances analyzed by GC were found to be linear in the investigated concentration range, 0.005% – 0.50%. The recoveries of the target fragrances from various types of cosmetic products were 80% – 116% and the relative standard deviations of the quantitative analysis of the target fragrance substances were within 5%.  相似文献

This paper presents a method for the simultaneous determination of 48 fragrance allergens in four types of toys (plastic toys, play clays, plush toys, and paper toys) based on GC with ion trap MS/MS. Compared with single‐stage MS, MS/MS is superior in terms of the qualification and quantification of a large range of compounds in complicated matrices. Procedures for extraction and purification were optimized for each toy type. The method proved to be linear over a wide range of concentrations for all analytes with correlation coefficients between 0.9768 and 0.9999. Validation parameters, namely, LODs and LOQs, ranged from 0.005–5.0 and from 0.02–20 mg/kg, respectively. Average recoveries of target compounds (spiked at three concentration levels) were in the range of 79.5–109.1%. Intraday and interday repeatabilities of the proposed method varied from 0.7–10.5% and from 3.1–13.4%, respectively. The proposed method was used to monitor fragrance allergens in commercial toy products. Our findings indicate that this method is an accurate and effective technique for analyzing fragrance allergens in materials composed of complex components.  相似文献

We present the successful application of emulsion electrospinning for the encapsulation of a model for highly volatile fragrances, namely (R)-(+)-limonene in a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) fibrous matrix. The influence of the emulsion formulation and of its colloidal properties on the fiber morphology, as well as on the limonene encapsulation efficiency, is described. The release profile of the fragrance from the electrospun nanofibers over a fifteen days range shows that this type of nanofibrous matrices with a high fragrance loading capacity is of great potential for applications in various fields, such as cosmetics or food packaging.  相似文献

The extraction is a simple process and it is widely used to extract the fragrances in fragrance industries from essential oils. There are number of compounds (i.e. flowers, oils, leaves etc.) from which we can prepare the fragrance by extracting the essential oils from them. In this work, we have prepared the fragrance from the essential oils by the liquid-liquid extraction process, where the essential oil presented as the concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds. We used the combination of Gas chromatography and Mass spectrometry (GC/MS) characterization techniques to make our product more useful, convenient and compitative with the other fragrance available in the market. This study would be helpful to understand the preparation of the fragrance from the concentrated hydrophobic liquid type essential oils which contains volatile aroma compounds by using a significant liquid-liquid extraction process.  相似文献

Fragrances are widely used in cosmetics,apparel and detergents.However,the rapid evaporation of the aro ma shortens the useful life of the aromatic product.Therefore,improving the fragrance retention time of aromatic products and prolonging the service life of aromatic products are the key scientific problems that need to be solved in current aromatic products.In this study,zwitterionic comb-like lipid polymers were synthesized to encapsulate the fragrance molecule linalool.The results showed that the zwitterionic comb lipid molecules were capable of encapsulating more linalool than linear lipid molecules.At the same time,the zwitterionic comb-like lipid molecules also limited the slow release rate of the aroma,thereby increasing the fragrance retention time of the nano-fragrance.  相似文献

Exposure to fragrance substances is exponentially increasing in our daily life due to the enhanced use of scented products. Some fragrances are known to be important sensitizers, inhalation being an important exposure pathway in indoor environments. A simple and sensitive method based on solid-phase enrichment and solid-phase microextraction (SPME) followed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) has been developed for the analysis of 24 volatile fragrance allergens in indoor air. Suspected allergens present in the air (0.2 m3) were adsorbed onto a very small quantity of florisil (25 mg) and then transferred to a SPME fiber in the headspace mode (HS). To the best of our knowledge, this paper describes the first application of SPME for the determination of these compounds in air samples. The experimental parameters affecting the microextraction process have been optimized using a multifactor experimental design strategy. Accuracy, linearity, precision and detection limits (LODs) were evaluated to assess the performance of the proposed method. External calibration, using spiked sorbent standards, and not requiring the complete sampling process (only the SPME step), demonstrated to be suitable for the quantification of all suspected allergens. Recovery studies were performed at three concentration levels (0.04, 1.00 and 50 μg m−3), obtaining quantitative recoveries (≥85%) in most cases. LOD values at the low ng m−3 level were achieved for all the target compounds. The application of the method to daily home air samples demonstrated the ubiquity of this kind of fragrance ingredients in quotidian indoor environments, finding 18 of the 24 considered compounds in concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 56 μg m−3. Benzyl alcohol, linalool, citronellol, ionone and lilial were found in most analyzed samples.  相似文献
