This study was designed to investigate the potential role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of cysts of the true vocal fold. Materials and Methods: Grayscale ultrasound of the larynx was carried out in 29 patients with a swelling of the true vocal fold and dysphonia. The findings were then compared with those at subsequent microlaryngoscopy, in the majority of cases. Results and Conclusions: Whereas preoperative laryngeal ultrasound correctly predicted the surgical findings of a cystic lesion in only 5 of 11 cases, it correctly identified that no cyst was present in 15 of 16 instances when this had been queried. This study suggests that ultrasound may have some role in investigation of unilateral vocal fold pathology, but that further fine-tuning of the technique may be necessary.  相似文献

A cost effective and environmentally friendly extraction technique using porous membrane protected micro-solid phase extraction (μ-SPE) is described for the extraction of estrogens in cyst fluid samples obtained from cancer patients. A sorbent (ethylsilane (C2) modified silica) (20 mg) was packed in a porous polypropylene envelope (2 cm × 1.5 cm) whose edges were heat sealed to secure the contents. The μ-SPE device was conditioned with acetone and placed in a stirred (1:5) diluted cyst fluid sample solution (10 mL) to extract estrogens for 60 min. After extraction, the analytes were desorbed and simultaneously derivatized with a 5:1 mixture of acetone and N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl)-trifluoroacetamide. The extract (2 μL) was analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Various extraction, desorption and derivatization conditions were optimized for μ-SPE. With this simple technique, low limits of detection of between 9 and 22 ng L−1 and linear range from the detection limits up to 50 μg L−1 were achieved. The optimized method was used to extract estrogens from cyst fluid samples obtained from patients with malignant and benign ovarian tumors.  相似文献

Stroboscopic signs were systematically rated for a group of 80 patients with benign vocal fold lesions, most of whom had either a nodule or a polyp. Each group revealed a characteristic pattern of ranking of signs and exhibited differences of most predominant signs. The results of the ratings were submitted to a multiple discriminant analysis to determine if post hoc stroboscopic ratings could be used to correctly classify patients into one of four diagnostic groups and into one of two treatment groups. All patients except one were correctly classified into the diagnostic groups, and all were correctly classified into the treatment groups. The important signs for classifying patients into the diagnostic groups were roughness of the edge of the affected vocal fold, phase closure pattern, and phase symmetry. The important signs for classifying patients into the treatment groups were roughness of the edge of the affected vocal fold, glottal closure configuration, and vibration characteristics of the affected (or more affected) vocal fold. The results suggest that objective evaluation of stroboscopic examinations can be valuable in correctly diagnosing patients and in selecting the proper treatment regimen for the patient.  相似文献

Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) is one of the most remarkable features of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) and silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). Due to these inherent optical properties, colloidal solutions of Au and Ag NPs have high extinction coefficients and different colour in the visible region of the spectrum when they are well-spaced in comparison with when they are aggregated. Therefore, a well-designed chemical interaction between the analyte and NPs surroundings leads to a change of colour (red to blue for Au NPs and yellow to brown for Ag NPs from well-spaced to aggregated ones, respectively) allowing the visual detection of the target analyte.  相似文献
