We argue that it may be possible to consistently explain the quantum measurement by assuming that the wave function is in one-to-one correspondence with objective physical reality and has no probabilistic interpretation. In the context of such approach we consider the model of a harmonic oscillator linearly coupled to a heat bath and treat the oscillator as the system being measured. Three classes of initial pure states for the bath are considered. Exact expressions for the average values and variances of the oscillator coordinate and momentum as functions of time are considered for each class of pure states. It is shown that these quantities exhibit different asymptotic behavior for different classes of initial states of the bath. In particular, if each mode of the bath is initially in a coherent state, then for an arbitrary initial state of the oscillator the variances of the oscillator coordinate and momentum asymptotically approach the same values as for a coherent state of the free oscillator, while the averages of coordinate and momentum show a Brownian-like behavior. We argue that such behavior shows several features of the quantum measurement and supports our interpretation of the wave function.  相似文献

In a recently proposed interpretation of quantum mechanics, U. Mohrhoff advocates original and thought-provoking views on space and time, the definition of macroscopic objects, and the meaning of probability statements. The interpretation also addresses a number of questions about factual events and the nature of reality. The purpose of this note is to examine several issues raised by Mohrhoff's interpretation, and to assess whether it helps providing solutions to the long-standing problems of quantum mechanics.  相似文献

An algebra of sentences of the quite intuitionistic protothetics, that is, an intuitionistic propositional logic with quantifiers augmented by the negation of the excluded middle, is a faithful model of intuitionistic propositional logic.  相似文献

A decision scheme for the interpretation of spectra from wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry is described that encompasses elements from three areas of artificial intelligence: fuzzy logic, rule based expert systems and neural net technology. After transforming the recorded spectra to line spectra by appropriate background correction a reasoning scheme is applied that takes into account not only the observed spectra, but also the recording conditions and prior spectroscopic information regarding the relative emission probabilities and the usefulness of the different lines for the purpose of element identification. The latter is done on the basis of a previously described scheme to compute conditional a posteriori Bayes probabilities for a mean matrix. These different pieces of information are then assembled into a battery of fuzzy rules. The importance of the rules as well as the importance of the X-ray lines is determined in a training process, similar to the one in a feedforward back-propagation network. To further stabilize the results this network is pruned in a second training cycle. This, however, had little effect on the quality of interpretation. The advantages of this approach to the interpretation of X-ray spectra over older ones are numerous: the system adapts itself to better interpret spectra that are of greater importance to a laboratory as these are better represented in the training set; the fuzzy logic is capable of working with incomplete and uncertain knowledge, and the neural network results based on these fuzzy rules is readily interpretable by the X-ray spectroscopist as every rule can be expressed also in natural language as in any classical rule based system. On leave from Silesian University, Katowice, Poland  相似文献

Elby (1993) has raised certain problems that appear to be devastating for modal interpretations of quantum mechanics, but do not arise for Bohm's pilot wave theory. Here I show that the features Elby identifies as objectionable in my version of the modal interpretation have their counterpart in Bohm's theory. To the extent that Bohm's theory works as a no collapse solution to the measurement problem - and I think it does - so does my modal interpretation.  相似文献

The interpretation of carbon-NMR spectra is mainly based on the comparison with suitable reference data taken from literature. The whole information contents of13C-NMR spectra cannot be utilized by manual interpretation. Therefore a network of interactive computer programs has been developed, which simulates the strategy of the spectroscopist in generating structural fragments from the spectral data. The most important knowledge source for this process is a carbon-NMR data base containing some 17,500 spectra. Structural fragments are generated automatically from this data file and assembled by a model builder to complete chemical structures using constraints derived from the spectral data. A comparison of the experimental carbon-NMR spectrum with the estimated ones allows the generation of a sorted hitlist. For part II see: H. Kalchhauser, W. Robien,J. Chem. Inf. Comput. The conformational lability of 4-ethyl-4-cyanobiphenyl molecules in solid crystal (SC) and isotropic liquid (IL) states was investigated by IR spectroscopic techniques (experiment and theory). IR absorption spectra were measured at 28°C–95°C in the frequency range 400 cm–1–4000 cm–1. Spectrum simulation was performed using the fragment method with allowance for the conformational fluctuations of molecules. The experimental and calculated spectra were compared and analyzed, and it was shown that in the IL, the samples are mixtures of conformers. The temperature changes in the spectra in the stated range are caused by the conformational lability of molecules.Original Russian Text Copyright © 2004 by L. M. Babkov, I. I. Gnatyuk, G. A. In previous work [15], we presented a hierarchy of classical modal systems, along with algebraic semantics, for the reasoning about intuitionistic truth, belief and knowledge. Deviating from Gödel's interpretation of IPC in S4, our modal systems contain IPC in the way established in [13]. The modal operator can be viewed as a predicate for intuitionistic truth, i.e. proof. Epistemic principles are partially adopted from Intuitionistic Epistemic Logic IEL [4]. In the present paper, we show that the S5-style systems of our hierarchy correspond to an extended Brouwer–Heyting–Kolmogorov interpretation and are complete w.r.t. a relational semantics based on intuitionistic general frames. In this sense, our S5-style logics are adequate and complete systems for the reasoning about proof combined with belief or knowledge. The proposed relational semantics is a uniform framework in which also IEL can be modeled. Verification-based intuitionistic knowledge formalized in IEL turns out to be a special case of the kind of knowledge described by our S5-style systems.  相似文献

The primary goal of this study was to describe and compare the criteria used to assess carcinogenic activity. The statistically-based predictive quantitative structure–activity relationship (QSAR) models based on the counter propagation artificial neural network (CPANN) algorithm, and knowledge-based expert systems based on a decision tree structural alert (SA) approach (Toxtree application), were considered. The integration of the QSAR (CPANN models) and SAR (Toxtree SA application) approach contributed to the mechanistic understanding of the QSAR model considered. The mapping technique inherent to CPANN Kohonen enables us to relate the similarities or dissimilarities within a congeneric set of chemicals with particular SAs for carcinogenicity. The focus of our investigations was the similarities and dissimilarities of the features used in the QSAR and SAR methods. Due to the complexity of the carcinogenic endpoint, the integration of different approaches allows the models to be improved and provides a valuable technique for evaluating the safety of chemicals.  相似文献
