High index of refraction via quantum interference in a three-level system of Er^3+-doped yttrium aluminium garnet crystal

A simple three-level system is proposed to produce high index of refraction with zero absorption in an Er^3+-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) crystal, which is achieved for a probe field between the excited state 4I13/2 and ground state 4I15/2 by adjusting a strong coherent driving field between the upper excited state 4I11/2 and 4I15/2. It is found that the changes of the frequency of the coherent driving field and the concentration of Er^3+ ions in the YAG crystal can maximize the index of refraction accompanied by vanishing absorption. This result could be useful for the dispersion compensation in fibre communication, laser particle acceleration, high precision magnetometry and so on. 相似文献

The quantum coherence effects of the transition Fe = 2←→Fg = 3 depending on the polarization of the coupling and probe beam are observed in a Cs vapor cell. The splitting of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) window is observed when the degeneracy of two-level system is broken using a magnetic field. It is also shown that the splitted transparency points of two of three windows are shifted with the intensity of magnetic field ( i. e. Zeeman splitting in the upper and lower levels ) increasing. On the contrary, when we fix the intensity of magnetic field, and increase the Rabi frequency of the coupling beam, the splitted transparency peaks become wider. Using Schroedinger-Maxwell formalism, we propose and analyse a cw four-wave mixing (FWM) scheme for the generation of coherent light in a five-level double-∧ atomic system based on electromagnetically induced transparency. We derive the corresponding explicit analytical expressions for the generated FWM field. The influence of hyperfine sublevel on the amplitude of the generated FWM field is predicted in detail. Assuming that baryons within a galactic halo have the same specific angular momentum as the dark matter where they locate initially and a disc forms due to the gas cooling and condensation with the conservation of angular momentum, we investigate the angular momentum distribution in a resulting galactic disc under the new preheated galaxy formation model suggested by Mo and Mao (Mon. Not. R. Astron. Soc. 333 (2002) 768).Compared with the observational results, it can be concluded that the preheated galaxy formation model can match current observations. This model can be a good approach to solve the problems of both the angular momentum catastrophe and the mismatch of angularomomentum profiles in current disc galaxy formation models. 相似文献

通过系统研究A~190区超形变核中转动带的转动惯量、角动量顺排、旋称分裂随转动频率的变化规律, 结合我们用处理对力的粒子数守恒方法的计算结果, 对A~190区所有转动带的组态结构给出了一个整体的描述. 绝大多数超形变带都建立在强耦合轨道上, 例如中子[512]5/2, [624]9/2. 少数超形变带则建立在高j闯入轨道上, 即中子[761]3/2, [752]5/2. 根据我们提出的组态结构所进行的理论计算结果表明, A~190区所有转动带的一般行为、反常变化和带交叉都得到了满意的解释. 相似文献
